Remeron vs Anafranil-sedation

Posted by Jerry on February 17, 1999, at 10:50:13

I will probably start either Anafranil or Remeron abd wondering which is worse for sedation. The reason Anafrail may be chosen is that it is very successful for my daughter although Remeron is, I understand chemically similar. None of the SSRI's have worked so I am excited about trying a "cyclic'. But I am somewhat concerned some horror stories I hear on the sedation side effects. Please e-mail me or respond here. After a few days, Remeron sedation was no problem for me. I was on it (15mg and 30mg) and a decent dose of klonopin.

James here....

I just restarted Remeron, 15 mgs at bedtime for sleep. The first 2 days were very groggy but I get used to the sedation and it does not carry into the AM. I took TCA's for years and find Remeron less sedating during the day. If I were to choose between a TCA (cyclic) and Remeron I would go for the Remeron first....any TCA, esp Anafranil is going to have many side effects....drying of all body systems, lowering of blood pressure, ect. One tends to get used to the TCA's side effects...i did...but it takes time and Remeron seems to be a kinder, gentler med.
