OK, I want to see a new board called Self Esteem

Posted by ClearSkies on August 20, 2005, at 22:55:56

With posts about how we can boost our own,
boost others about whom we are concerned,
whine about our own, provide views into the the gaping holes,
work on projects to improve ours altogether,
keep each updated on how we are doing with our homework,
suggest ways an individual can improve an aspect of their own.

Think of those TV ads where the Nest Eggs are being roled down the street. These should be our Self Esteem Eggs.

Any interest, Babblers?

yeah.
but maybe we could keep it positive?
there are plenty of places to whine already...

someplace thats about improving our views of ourself and the world etc.

someplace that won't be triggering...

More like a cheerleading board, about the positive aspects of ourselves and how we can reinforce them. We already do a great job of being negative about ourselves day to day.

I wasn't thinking it would be as formalized as CBT; it could be as silly as we wanted, like
-washed my hair today
-talked to three people
-did not run away from the grocery store
-did not scowl at myself in the mirror
...and bigger projects, too, like taking classes, making new friends IRL, finishing a degree.

I think that's part of what Dr. Bob intended Psychology to be. If it's not being done there, it's just because no one has started doing it. :)

I have tried in the past and still am interested in doing a CBT thing there.

Psychology is what we make it.

ew please not cbt.
can't we discuss self esteem and work toward building it without aligning ourselves to any particular theory????
i guess people could do that over on psychology
or social
or writing
or substance
or wherever
but it might be nice to have a board that is focused on building a positive view of life / oneself.
it might be nice to have a board that isn't so triggering...

I def. agree that a board mainly focusing on self esteem would be great. Majority of all the people i know that have some form of mental illness also seem to have self esteem issues as well. I think it could be very beneficial to everyone!!

Kewl. I wonder how many "I want one too"s we need before Dr Bob will build a board for us?

Some days I'd love to have more self esteem - and a board for that kind of thing would be great too ;-)

Actually that's what I meant. Maybe I don't have a clear picture of CBT. I was thinking in the same line as Clear Skies. Posting our accomplishments for the day. That in itself would boost self-esteem. Fondly, Phillipa

How about it, Dr Bob?

I think it's an interesting idea. I guess I'd see Psychology more for discussing why someone has low self-esteem, or how it's coming up and they're addressing it in therapy?

That still leaves a gaping hole where a Self Esteem board could be, right? How'za'bout it?

I'd love to see something like that -- a lot of us need that sort of reminder, I think.

When I was still teaching, I'd try to end every lesson with a little check out: "Tell me three things you did well today?" And in our support group, when we're winding down, I try to have everyone list a couple of things we like about our bodies -- even if it's just the shape of our fingernails, which it sometimes is for me. Having something here, where we can both work on validating ourselves as CS suggested, and also offer up what has helped us -- wow. Wouldn't that be a great bonus for the site?

Thanks.

I think a go, but I'm just not able to do it right now. Remind me if I let it go too long?
