But its great that your feeling good. I read about statistics and one shows that someone who quits their meds in the 1st 3 years 2 out of 3 will relapse. With your family history its one heck of a risk if the lexapro continues to work for you. I have no plans whatsoever in quitting my med. Its to much of a risk for me. As long as you dont feel drugged and your on the right dose why risk it. You feel normal right? You just take something to feel that way. Nothing wrong with that!!!! TAKE CARE!!!

my wife-sweetie took paxil for a few years about a decade ago ... bad, very bad ... no one ever mentioned side-effects at all to her ... ... now we are still trying to find her libido! .... very hard on us ... especially because we had no idea about paxil SEs ... sad ...
whereas, i have been on lex 4 1/2 months now ...
... zero weight gain ...
... **improved** sexual satisfaction ... (hey, my lil' wifey!) ...... ... and i am much less depressed ... did have some start-up SEs, but they went away ...
personally, IMHO, i would not even compare lex to paxil ...

("Hey, is this what it's like to not be depressed?") ... ... and accepting that we may need help from meds ... for however long ...... diabetics need meds ... ... epileptics need meds ... and our depression(s) may be biochemical or neurochemical dysfunctions for which we may need meds ... ... Especially, if they can make life worth living ... ... hang in there ... and try to let us know how you are doing, Please ...

Of course, I can't speak for others but for me Paxil took away the spark. I was considerably less depressed but I was also flat as a pancake. No up and no downs make for a dull boy. Lex seems to let me be me but skip the lion's share of my depression.

From my experience....Lexapro gave me a tremendous headache for the first 10 days (in fact all SSRI's I've tried do). I also could not sleep at night. I took a Klonopin to offset that problem.
I'm on Lex now 4 weeks. I just increased my dosage from 5 mg to 7.5 mg. I have an awful headache today just from that mild increase. I know if will go away though. I sleep fine at night without any Klonopin. Just noticed though that I'm getting an increased appetite which I'm not liking at the moment.
Hang in there. I'm sure the headache and dizziness will go away in a few more days!

When I first started Lexapro, my Dr started me on 10 mg of Lex from 30mg of Paxil. Straight switch from one to the other the next day. I thought that he gave me a placebo at first because I had no noticable side effects other than my depression seemed to be getting much worse. I did go through a stage of severe tingling skin a few weeks into the treatment. Now after a couple of months on Lex I think that I feel a little better (for the last few days.)

i have been takin paxil for 2 years.. didnt seem to be working as well as it was. dr switched me to lexapro 10.. i am worried about switching and having withdrawal from paxil.. dr said i should be fine because i am going from one right into the other.. anyone have any comments on switching from paxil to lex.. sure looking for some words of wisdom.. please email me direct if you have a comment..cvest601@aol.com

i to am having this imbarrassing problem, however i noticed that if i have sex that this goes almost completely away, is it possible that our senses are confused and that we should try making love think about it, can you pee when it is standing up saying hello baby??? and also after sex don't most men in general have a problem there? just a thought. mine i noticed is more intence on some days and less on others. there seems to be corolation to heavy stress days as well, i seem to have these problems on the days that i get paniky. which i was having the last couple days. to where if people get in my air space i feel traped and vulnerable. i hate that feeling.

i have mentioned here before two lexapro SEs i had at first: the lex speed-buzz and the lex-induced anxiety ... ... then i realize that they're related and that the amphetamine-like qualities of this SE exacerbates the anxieties and tensions ... ... and this will fuel stress, which acellerates muscle tension and ... ...
... ... this is what kept building up until it brought on panic attacks in a 52 year-old guy who didn't know what they were ... ...
... but it could also contribute to problems peeing ...
and i don't know if it's just the proximity, but the urination-challenge seemed related to the anorgasmia ... ... there was a tingling, kind of not-quite-numb like sensation ... some at the tips of my fingers too ... and the tip of my nose ... the extremeties ...
... makes me more grateful all those SEs went away ... ... but i could see how making love could relieve the tension and how that could help make it easier to pee ...
anyway, i agree with you: it is all interrelated ...

This is the reverse for me of when I got off Zoloft; then I was thirsty. Hope it's not a bad sign; the zoloft helped my migraines and that's what I need the lex for.

hey books ~i don't know how much the THRIST may have subsided from adapting to lexapro

my concern about trying to stay hydrated because of my sense the importance of avoiding dehydration ... ....

i have had regular headaches from my sinuses due to allergies ... ... these have diminished and i credit the extra water ... and maybe the lexapro?

lex is doing well with me. the world fine as well. hot though. 115 out west was the temp. airconditioning couldn't keep up. i did experience the bathroom trouble some, it come and goes.

I just got back from being in the hospital all night for what seemed like heart attack symptoms. My heart rate was high, arm and jaw pain, a burning sensation all through my chest and back. After tests all night and a stress test today, they find my heart is fine and are supspecting severe stress or side effects from the lexapro I started on Tuesdsay. Has anyone else expereinced this??

I haven't.
Could it be gastrointestinal? My partner had a lot of heart tests done when it turned out to be a gall bladder problem. Also, my coworker had something similar -- was rushed to the ER with 'heart attack' symptoms, numbness down arm, trouble breathing, etc. -- turned out to be gastrointestinal.
A new medication _could_ cause this kind of gastrointestinal reaction. Your liver is processing something new, something it may not like.

if it were me in your shoes and the family past history i would enjoy the meds if you find one that makes you feel better. chances are if grandma had the meds we have she never would have been institutionalized. see ive been there done that with the post partum depression. my baby i caried 7 + months my only son, born dead. i was always a strong and happy go lucky person i could look death in the eye and carry on( had a death wish i guess) any way after the dead baby i had horrible post partum and the went straight in to post tramatic stress syndrom. raped at age three and beating by mommy dearest after words FOR I BROUGHT IT ON MYSELF DON'T YA KNOW... see at age three i still needed a little guidance in dressing my self. ( got shirts on inside out, backwards,etc... thats when any way that it happened) carried on the rest of life as well. thats enough of that. any way i tried to rough it out and damn near killed me and others because i couldn't funtions. yet i was afraid i was cracked if i took meds. 2 yrs went by and i got progressivly worse. DON'T DO THAT TO YOU AND YOURS. IF YOU CAN FIND A MED THAT MAKES YOU FEEL TEN PERCNT(PREFERABLY BETTER THAT THAT) BETTER YOU OWE IT TO YOURSELF AND YOUR FAMILY TO FELL BETTER AND HELP YOUR SELF. don't tell everyone though because not every one likes meds. they think you are cracked... when in actually they just don't know about meds. its afear they have about the unknown...
