Choline Supplementation for SSRI/SNRI Withdrawal

Posted by Joe Bloe on March 29, 2007, at 11:36:35

I just posted virtually the same thing on the alternative board, but thought it might be useful for people struggling with SSRI/SNRI withdrawal:

About 6 weeks ago, I began to withdraw from Prozac 20mgs. 3-4 week taper from Prozac, now 2-3 weeks off.

At the same time, I started daily choline supplementation with Jarrow brand:

-CDP-choline (cytidine 5-diphosphocholine), 250 mg
-Alpha GPC 300 mg (L-alphaglycerylphosphosphorylcholine)

SSRI withdrawal "produces an 'anticholinergic rebound,' which is an interruption in production of the key neurotransmitter acetylcholine." (Link to quote: http://bipolar.about.com/cs/antidep/a/0207_ssridisc1.htm)

If I don't take the supplement, I definitely notice! Increased fatigue and irritability. It's not a panacea but it may help. In comparison to my two previous attempts withdrawing from Prozac, this time, with choline supplementation and 25 mgs of Lamictal, has been by far the easiest.
