Tapering off of geodon for psychotic depression.

Posted by Boogie on January 16, 2006, at 9:58:21

I was first diagnosed with schizophreniform disorder on Jan. 2004. I stayed in the mental ward of a hospital for 10 days. While in the mental ward I was taking risperdal but got off of that later and took zyprexa instead. Then I got out of the mental ward and had a new psychiatrist who put me on geodon. In a couple of months, my symptoms went away. But in the fall of 2004 around October I relapsed and my psychiatrist put me on geodon and abilify. My symptoms went away again, but I started vomiting because of the abilify. Without tapering it off, my psychiatrist abruptly took out the abilify. He also changed my diagnosis to psychotic depression. I got better from my relapse around December 2004. I've been symptom free since then and am being tapered off of geodon and I was just wondering do they just wait until your symptoms come back and then stop tapering off medication? Also, how successful are they in tapering off medication? Have any of you been tapered off? Also, is geodon habit forming? I remember I couldn't sleep for 3 days before I was sent to a lock down facility and geodon is what pretty much puts me to sleep. When I don't take geodon at the right time I don't get sleepy and have to take trazadone as a sleeping pill. Just wondering, have any of you experienced this?
