Lexapro and Future Withdrawal

Posted by Snowie on March 3, 2005, at 17:21:49

I haven't posted in a while but luckily haven't needed to. However, my pdoc recently gave me a 2-week trial of Lexapro for GAD and social anxiety, and I hate taking new meds.

I recently went off 2 mg./day of Klonopin (which wasn't helping my anxiety) so I'm back on 2 mg./day of Xanax (which I'll eventually taper somewhat), along with approx. 800 mg./day of Neurontin.

My pdoc suggested that I cut the 10 mg. Lexapro in half for a few days and take 10 mg. when I was ready, so I did that for 4 days and a couple days ago started taking the full 10 mg./day. So far I don't feel much of anything, good or bad. I'm concerned that Lexapro won't help my anxiety (or even worse, will have terrible side effects) if I continue taking it, and the eventual withdrawal from this drug won't be fun.

I want to know if this drug is worth taking for GAD and social anxiety, and if not, how long do I have to take it before the withdrawal effects kick in? Also, I know some people on here have had problems taking Lexapro. Does anybody like this med, and if so, why do you like it? If you like it but no longer take it, why did you go off it? If you didn't like it and went off it, why didn't you like it? Please be specific, if possible.

Thanks.

Snowie
