Oxycontin and Tolerance

Posted by okydoky on June 10, 2008, at 13:14:44

I have never written on this board before. I never felt the need to. Hope this is appropriate for it.

I have been on Oxycontin since 2003 for pain. I never wanted to stay on it and took a lot of supplements, changed eating habits and saw two naturopaths. I was able to go off of it twice for several weeks. In February I got an infection which caused a great increase in pain. I had to increase my Oxycontin from 40mg a day to 60mg. Not every day. I took a supplement that bothered my bladder (source of pain) for a few days and stopped. Now I find that I need at least 30mg bid and usually more. Is my tolerance increased for good do you think? I am trying to change to Suboxone or Subutex but just found a doctor I thin will write it for me. Have not spoken to him yet.

Very unhappy. Never thought I would have to stay on pain meds. My urologist keeps telling me it will be for ever and I need to accept it.
