Well... I have been in treatment a few times! You must share a room with another person and you cannot have any personal items. Some places will allow you to keep deo and shampoo in a box that they hold on to. If you cannot tamper off yourself, then a treatment center would be good for you. I, myself hated treatment. You have no rights.. the staff is rude and treat you like a drug addict loser, and you have to attend all types of groups even when your sick from withdrawing. When your going thru withdrawals, you feel like CRAP and just want to lay in bed. They dont care, they drag you out of bed and keep you active. I guess thats good but not when you dont feel good. the treatment centers I was in, were horrible. They did not give me any personal attention... the doctor came around like once a week and didnt really listen to me. The only benefit was there was no alcohol around for me to drink. But as soon as I got out, I was so anxious and happy to be the hell out of there, I went out and got drunk first thing :(
There are really good treatment centers (so I have heard) if you got good insurance. I was in very poor treatment centers with staff that barely spoke english, you could hear the nurses fighting and cursing over stupid things. I was hospitalized with alot of homeless and very ill people. There was very little supervision and the most disgusting things were going on. People were abusing sleeping pills in there and people were trading medications, getting high off of it. My roomate was very sick and would talk to herself constantly. I couldnt get any sleep, and they wouldnt give me any sleeping meds the first couple of days cuz I was going thru alcohol withdrawals. I felt like I was going to die in there. I will never step foot in another treatment center, especially now since I dont have insurance.
The treatment center I was in, 1 week after I got out, a patient shot one of the doctors dead on the floor. Scary thought. Thank god I wasnt there to witness it. I dont want to scare you but this is my personal experience with treatment centers! Oh, and most of the staff were ex-addicts themselves. I dont like the thought of that.
