The old acid joke, 'there's nothing to be afraid of? Or like Eliot in East Coker 'The growing terror of nothing to think about'? (really, that hasn't bothered me for years, but he was on a train, maybe crowded, men reading the morning papers, their faces hidden.)
It would be quick. And all the satisfaction of knowing (if there had been time) that there had never been a reason to worry. (Maybe?)
What about asteroids? There would be more warning and they might not be total and complete. They sound worse to me.
