Most people would not consider unhappiness over hair loss vanity. I'd be very very unhappy too. Btw, I completely understand the experience and the irony of mediation triggering an existential crisis. For awhile it was a no-go.
Do you listen to audiobooks? I can't recall if this was ever brought up somewhere. Sometimes I'll listen to a favorite book. Gaaah! Alan Rickman has one (only one!), and it's pretty boring (unless you like Thomas Hardy) but soothing.
