Hey.

I concur. Psychobabble has helped me much more than I can ever hope to express.

I think that people left as Dr Bob reduced his input here.

I think that Dr Bob reduced his input here as he moved to retirement.

I don't quite know... But how old is he now? How many years was he working for the University of Chicago? How many years was he on call, fairly much 24/7 for us?

He was there in the early days of health informatics. Look how far it's come...

We were all a part of that...

Nowdays... Pharmaceutical companies know to get information from doctors about who they trust for prescribing information... To pay those people to deliver advertisement/information for the company at conference... No, that's early days, things have moved beyond that...

(Think about how people would trust the advice of certain 'trusted posters' on the meds board)

It's a kind of consumer research...

No, it's beyond that...

Dr Bob did early market research on how consumers felt about google ads... How much would people pay / donate to not have google ads?? Would people give their credit card information to participate in Babble?

Remember all of this...

Dr Bob was a pioneer...

A visionary.

And in exchange... Yeah, I got the best care I'll ever get. And to be a part of that...

The internet's all ruined now... Every 13 year old paying hundreds of dollars for their government surveillance device... Giving away more than everything corporations / non-profits where any 'profits' are directly channeled to boards of directors ever did...

Find something we'd like to do but costs money.
Solution: Get people to pay for the privaledge of doing that for us.

In NZ... You don't give away health information (such that foreign corporations can profit from the information. That's yesterdays realisation. What you do is you make health providers pay for using the software that enables you to compile data on which start up / small provider is making most profits such as you can ID them to buy them out swiftly...

Or similar.

Dr Bob... Has served his working life... Methinks.

I don't suppose we can complain...

I'm learning / thinking about 'complicit'. What that is / means. Not for Bob... FOr me... Just generally... It's better than ranting about profiteering (as I've become wont to do)... Anatomy major (currently). Physiology lurking in the vicinity... Why use tissue that's been donated by people who have given informed consent... Why do that... Most especially when you can totally obtain ethics board approval to make and kill for purpose a bunch of critters whom no rational being would decide to be...

Sigh.

in other news... Why can't biochemists talk in paragraphs? Sentences? Or even.... WOrds? Whats up with the code of letters with no key??????

You have to be a physiologist to think that providing an equation with no key of symbols is an academically reputable thing to do. No physicist....

I'm sorry this is kind of garbled...

Do you remember that Dr Bob had this thing about the move from autocracy to democracy... Different forms of government... I think he genuinely did try and make a go of how Babble might survive beyond him...

I thought that insofar as a leader... Dinah... If anyone had the... Public support to pull that off... It was Dinah... But she didn't want to do it without Bob... (No judgement). He tried with a bigger group... It went kinda pear shaped...

Babble's still here.

I think that the more people put in... The more other people put in...

Larry Hoover is remembered. The name means something. If Larry Hoover were to put thought / time / effort into Babble posts... If posters could feel fairly confident that if they posted they would get a positive response... Posting numbers / the amounts of 'genuine' / 'genuinely vulnerable' / potentially meaningful interactions would increase...

It's basically...

Up to us.

I don't know that I'm capable of...

Well... Anything, really. I get like a dog with a bone sometimes. Or like a pit bull with a target... Which is sort of my virtue and my vice...

Not entirely prosocial...

Or something...
