However, once you respond well to treatment, you will most likely progress quickly in your recovery and be very happy with your new engagement in life. Mental illness leaves a huge amount of damage in its wake that one needs to address. However, your interpretation of your past and your outlook for the future will improve dramatically. Because of this, I doubt you will find the need to "catch up" with everyone else. You might, instead, find fulfillment in choosing your own path in life, and not get stuck comparing yourself to others.
