Because I've always lived in multi-unit condos, I could never dress up the house. But when my daughter was young, I would have parties for her friends on Halloween and really do it up -- skeletons, ghosts, webs, scarecrows. We would turn the basement of our building into a haunted house. How much money I couldn't afford that I spent on this, I can't say. But I loved doing it.

Once, we were moving and having a yard sale to get rid of unwanted stuff. I had a giant (seven-feet tall) Frankenstein monster blow up thing that I had bought for these Halloween parties. It was the very first thing I sold at the yard sale. This little boy and his father came buy and the boy begged his father to buy it.

Either I didn't notice before, or this is the first year they did it. But it was fun to see people getting into the spirit. We did nothing in terms of decorations this year, but I bought a pumpkin and put it on the steps :D
