Being a parent for me (when I could do it) was about creating a safe space with wide boundaries in which the kid could grow.
It's different now. We are friends, which is good, but not the same.
I especially loved the first (boy) one learning to talk. Because he took time I could understand and enjoy his progress.
And as you imply and someone said, having kids helps you grow up, partly because sometimes you can see your reflection in them and you don't like it.
