My experience of growing up was that the more I grew, the less I was myself, until whenever.

The environment needs to be helpful. There have been things we have done for our kids which were just being responsive to their interests and generally accepting, so our kids are themselves much more completely than was possible for me at their age, and the ability to do certain things comes partly from the support they were given. They feel so old and responsible to me....they make me feel quite juvenile.
