Thanks for posting this link, Scott.
I do remember your story.
I have been watching things, reminding myself, reminding my younger family members, trying to explain to my 4-year-old granddaughter, "But why would any guys DO that with airplanes, gramma?" Not really possible.
I personally wish we had more focus every year, not just on this 10th "anniversary." It seems to be a loaded subject and I am easily misunderstood. I had no personal connection, although being active duty military at the time I had a bit of a unique view and even some things I cannot talk about to this day regarding security of US forces overseas, etc. (I was in Germany and felt quite impotent (weird, since most people were that anyway) and frustrated being away from US soil) But I find 10 years later my emotions of outrage, disgust, horror, shock, fury, grief are still pretty damn fresh. It's as if they are always there, waiting just to be triggered.
It was one hellish day. It was also filled with profound courage and heroism. This is what I focus on. Watching TV specials and such now I am mostly overwhelmed with pride and gratitude that I can live alongside people who when faced with such a sudden shockingly dangerous and awful situation, choose to help and save others. Terrorism will never blow that selfless love out of people - they cannot.
Anyway, thanks, Scott. I know it's so personal yet you share it anyway.
