When my daughter was 13, I woke up at 3:00AM to hear the doorbell of our condo ringing. I ignored it at first, figuring it must be some drunks ringing bells. But it went on, so I got up and found my daughter in tears. She had been ringing the bell for a long time and my husband and I didn't wake up. She found herself running down the street in her pajamas. Scary. We live in the city, making it even more scary. For years after that, my husband and I put our bikes in front of the door at night, figuring that having to move them might wake her up if it happened again.
