Article - genetics of mental illness - sort of

Posted by jane d on November 10, 2010, at 14:23:09

There was an interesting article in the NY Times a couple of days ago talking about epigenetics in relation to mental illness. It doesn't go into much detail and it looks like it's all speculation at this point but it's still interesting.

It talks about the enviroment influencing genes. Ironically I think that ultimately this research will show that more things are genetic instead of environmental. At least when "environmental" is used to mean things like the social interactions we have with our family. It would explain why many illness very strongly run in certain families but not everyone is afflicted.

Anyway it's interesting stuff. I always knew that tall and short bean plants didn't explain much.
