Quite true, Dr. Bob, they *can*. It just takes a bit more discipline in budgeting. Just as the employee 401K is sometimes harder to budget than the pension plans that used to be more common. Life has changed so much from when I was a young employee. Retirement used to feel more safe.

I had definitely gotten the impression that independent therapy was not the most stable source of income, and the lack of paid benefits was a disadvantage? But maybe I'm generalizing from comments I've heard now and again.
