The feeling of isolation from others is a classic symptom of depression and for all I know, a cause.

There was a time when, for all the problems, people knew their neighbours more than they do now.

I managed to find some people whom (?) I did not easily and naturally antagonise (all the time!).

If you feel terrible, or desperate, it makes contact that much more difficult. To him who has shall more be given, but to him that has not, even that which he has shall be taken away.

People I know now don't mind saying that they take an AD or whatever, and they are more prepared to accept people in different shapes and sizes than was the case when I was younger. Perhaps some of those things matter less because we are closer to death?
(There's probably something to be said for it. I imagine immortality would lead to a war of all against all?)
