I'm having a dog second honeymoon

I've had dogs all my life, and while none of mine right now are that magic one or two in a lifetime, I'm having one of those madly in love stages of dog relationship.

My sweet matriarch. She's really only a few months older than the twins, but appears much much older. She has the bearing of a duchess, until she makes noises like a pig snuffling truffles. Her only flaw is that she's too darn perfect. I feel bad saying that, but I like a bit of imperfection in a dog. However, my son thinks perfect is just perfect, so she's his dog although we all love her.

My baby boy cuddles next to me at night and follows me around all day. His ancestors have been bred for centuries to be ladies muffs. It shows. He's not as devoted as some, but he's my baby.

His sister has tons of problems, but she's so cute. She can curl up to roughly the size of a cinnamon roll. She's daddy's little princess and sleeps next to my husband, and as small as she is, she manages to come close to pushing him out of bed. She looked up at me this morning, with her one remaining large and expressive eye, while the rest of her was tightly curled in a ball. It was such an improbable sight and absolutely adorable.

My sheepdog might end up becoming one of those special dogs in my life. We're becoming more and more attuned to each other. She makes me laugh. And she makes me feel loved in that intense sheepdog way. I wake up to her barking insistently that it's time to get up, and even though I am not a morning person, I wake up with a laugh. She is totally opposed to the sybaritic lifestyle I prefer, and teases me out of it whenever possible.

It's one of those absolutely fabulous ensemble cast of dogs that come along now and again.
