My review of the new U2 cd...well a bit..anyone???

Posted by Jay_Bravest_Face on February 25, 2009, at 0:04:25

Well, after feeling kinda sh*tty and depressed, I thought I'd try on some music to help me out. This album, the new U2 album "No Line on the Horizon", actually hasn't come out yet, but can be found on most of your file-sharing outlets. It was also (accidentally??) put up on Napster (pay service) last week, and Wal-Mart (accidentally x 2?) put up preview clips of the whole album.
ANYHOW...lets get on here...with the MUSIC!!

I've only had the album for about 3 days. I always test out new albums in my car stereo because it is an excellent system, and I like the landscape + people + music aspect of it all. I've tried picking a fav off the album. Well, first off, this is nothing like the past few u2 albums. This album is a bit more darker, with a fair more electronica/industrial (like Achtung Baby) but more modern. This takes a LOT of listens to sink in. And it doesn't *stick* to you the way songs like *Beautiful Day* or *Sometimes you can't make it on your own..* do. But, they challenge, command the listener to examine what is going on. And there IS still the U2 depth and passion.

My fave's..

Well..this is tough, again...but "Unknown Caller"
is very, very melodic, with a chorus of like a choir chant. The lyrics...I had read they are about that single second between life and death. Ahhh...such casual topics, eh?

Another....Cedars of Lebanon. Basically, Bono does a rough voice almost 'skat' about a moment of life in Palestine. He doesn't blame or preach. He just describes the utter poverty, lack of clean water and food, filth, hopelessness, and pain all around him.

Yet another....Fez -Being Born. I didn't realize this was named after where they partly wrote the new album, in Morocco. To my imagination, it has something to do with the 'birth', or 'creation' of this album. Musically, this has to be one of the most experimental U2 songs ever made!

I will leave the rest up to you. Anybody want a copy, just email me. :)

Best,
Jay
