My current interest are organic gardening for one. I planted my first organic garden this summer. I planted tomatoes, zucchini, cucumbers, watermelon, swiss chard, red and yellow bell peppers, raspberry, blackberry, strawberry and most all the herbs. It was really an adventure. I was flying by the seat of my pants I guess. I got lots of food from them, but over time a lot of the plants became overrun with diseases. I was trying to find out what they were and how to treat them, and it just seems like it was too late. A lot of them are dying. So pretty soon I'm going to plant my Fall garden, and I'm going to try to stay on top of diseases, spraying preventatively and composting more.
Another interest is cooking and food preparation. I say food preparation because I eat a lot of raw food, so you can't really use the word "cooking" for that. But I love both cooking and raw food prep. I am a vegetarian (eating fish occassionally). I guess you could call me a flexitarian. My husband is not a vegetarian, but he has some dietary restrictions. So I'm always looking for recipes for him, others for me, and some that will please us both. I was trying to remember what books I've read this year, and I realized I've only read cookbooks and culinary interests books. I only recently became interested in food preparation. Now I love it with a vengeance.
I have an interest I'm not too proud of, too. For over a year I went without watching television, and it was great for me. I didn't see all those horrible violent images on tv show and on the news, but I recently went back to television. I don't know why. So I starting seeing news about the missing girl named Caylee Anthony. Now I can't get enough of the story. I hope with all my heart that the child is okay. The family is so screwed up that I find it fascinating. I just want to know more about them. The show that covers the story the most is Nancy Grace who is a horrible, horrible person in my opinion. She is snide and rude and slanderous. But I find myself watching her show all the time!! I come from an extremely troubled family background myself that includes murder by a parent, incest, neglect and emotional abuse. So I think in trying to figure out the Anthony family, I'm seeking more insight into mine. I've spoken to my therapist about it, and he seems to think that's what's going on.
