I don't think so. Here's from the back of Bovril bottle:
"A bit of history... In 1936 Bovril extract and milk was a popular DRINK! Add a teaspoon of BOVRIL paste to a glass of hot milk and STIR..."
No, it doesn't sound very nice to me either but someone must have liked it.
