Re: what is the purpose of life? » obsidian

In reply to what is the purpose of life?, posted by obsidian on July 14, 2008, at 21:47:18

Whenever I am asked that question, I reply that "Life is its own purpose". I don't think that one person's answer to the question will satisfy all. There are some who, having read my first sentence here, would contend that I am an atheist. Nothing could be farther from the truth. My belief in God is well consolidated. However, in the absence of certainty and consistency regarding religious depictions of God and Man, life obviously replicates itself through an innate drive towards reproduction. So, at the very least, life is its own purpose - to survive in order to reproduce. I find this consistent with my spirituality and belief in God. It actually strengthens this belief.

Why suffering of the innocent? I'm not sure, but it does exist. I can't know the mind of God. Only He knows his own motivations in establishing the order of the Universe. Scientists can establish the "how" things happen, but never the "why". Existence is a mystery for which I currently attribute to the workings of a higher power. I hope my spirituality in being comfortable with uncertainty remains with me.
