all is fair. sweetie, if the money you get from the doll will buy you lots of icecream (that's somethign that will cheer you up, right?), then i say sell it.
and don't feel guilty about it either hun. if you need the money, sell it. i'm sure yoru friend would want you to get joy from her gift, and if the doll's not bringing it, buy something that will.
