twas totally pieces and dust of pottery all done up in bubble wrap in a smooshed, crushed, damaged box.
in past when USPS has delivered damaged mail or parcels they've attached forms indicating damage and how/who to contact.
mail can be such a gamble. lots of hits at least to make up for the few misses...but often those misses hurt big.
