Yes, I can too. I'm not sure how common this is, probably everyone can do it to some degree. I'm still not sure about handedness. Yesterday my dad came in with a carton of milk in a carrier bag. I watched him hold the bag in his right hand and lift the carton out with his left hand. I asked him if he was ambidextrous, and he said " Ambi? Both hands? No, I'm right handed (showing me his left hand), then he quickly corrected himself and held up the right hand. I don't know what to make of it. It could just be a co-incidence. You would normally use your dominant hand to 'do' things, and your 'submissive' hand to hold things wouldn't you? Or is it the other way around? Anyway, I'll have to watch him more closely and see what happens over time.

As for me, I've found I can do all tasks I've tried using both hands, not with equal skill though, and I've never considered myself ambidextrous. It does feel odd with the left hand, a bit stiff, and a little shaky, but the ability is there, and it's almost on the same level as the right hand. I can write clearly and legibly with it, without having any practice, but the writing is a little 'spidery' compared to the right hand. I can't help but wonder how my performance with my right hand would be if I were to stop using it, and use the left instead for over 20 years. I have no doubt I could use my left hand fluently with a bit of practice if I were to lose the use of my right. Apparently this is not all that unusual, but still I have no answer to my question, only more questions.
