I hate it when my mom tries to tell me what's good for me to eat.

Deneb, good for you for making your own dinner. I wonder if your mom is just doing this because you didn't make dinner for the rest of your family too?

Tell your mom you'll taste the fish, but show her evidence that you're a big girl too (and that you cooked and finished the aforementioned chicken breast).

Then you can go totally over-the-top

"Oh MOM, this is the BEST fish I've ever had in my entire life. I wish I had never eaten the chicken breast. This is better than any fish that has ever been caught, cooked or eaten in the history of civilization. The tender flake, the delicate seasoning... I wish I could save some of the precious juices and dab some on my wrists, because then the men would know what a fantastic cook my mother was. It would be the perfume of the Gods. Mother you are the finest cook I've ever known. How silly of me to try to cook my own meal when I didn't know that you were cooking tonight. I hope you will find it in your heart to forgive me for eating chicken earlier. I had no idea that such a fabulous fish dinner even existed. Had I only known, I surely would have waited 2 hours in eager anticipation of the fish feast you've skillfully prepared... etc."

sarcasm usually works well on my parents when they start to get too overbearing.

good luck in the future--
