******If she doesn't call by the end of the day - which is now, really! - I'd say leave another message.******

**********I'd say ditto to the above. It's been my experience that therapists can work on the present & sometimes the past will end up getting talked about anyhow. For ex - something might remind you of something else & you might mention it & they ask about it, etc.I am disillusioned about pdocs. I used to have a wonderful one. I could go once a week if I felt I needed it. She was lovely. She retired. I waited months to see one (the head of psychiatry,as it turns out, at a local hospital). He's the one who saw me in Oct for an 'intake', said come back in January, then when I did & my son was seriously psychotic & seemed quite in danger for his safety & the pdoc listened etc & said that I seemed to be doing well & come back & see him in a month or two!!!!
OKAAAAYYYYYYYYYYY! When I told my family doctor how upset I was by that, he was understanding, but said that in this area pdocs are SO overbooked that they just don't have the time to do weekly psychotherapy like Dr. V used to.
I have an appt with the pdoc Feb 26th & I'm sort of wondering what's the point???? I want to deal with some things that are from the past & keep rearing up in one form or another, preventing me from being able to function as healthily as I would if I dealth with them.Oh Well.
Anyway Phillipa, 'the system' seems to be SO slow & frustrating. The important things to remember are:
- you're worth it
- try not to take it personally; there are probably reasons for particular therapists not working for particular patients
- you're worth it - oh yes - I know I said that, but you ARE!!!
- try to know that winter is really hard for a lot of people; you won't always feel like you do now.I send numerous hugs, love, Kath
