What about allergies? There are food allergies which can cause scratching and/or rubbing around the face, and adape which is environmental allergies. Adape can cause skin and/or respiratory issues. My dog has been on hydroxyzine HCL for years. She also has a special diet since she has food allergies as well--venison and potato. Lucky dog, eating "gourmet" if that equals expensive. I also have to use grooming products without fragrance and certain ingredients and a leave-in conditioner with hydrocortisone.
Our dog is the "poster dog" for canine allergies. She needs her own telethon to cover the vet bills. ;)
