What do I have on my iPod? Everything, hehe...

I got a G4 60gig model and only 15gig of music. But, I must say with no modesty whatsoever, I bought one just a few months after they debuted (G1, baybee, which my niece now owns) with 5gig of memory. GASP! What to do?

I decided to manage my iPod by playlist, created some normal and some smart playlists of stuff I always wanted with me. And then...

I decided that I was going to listen to every song I owned. And this is how I was going to do it.

I did not rate a song in iTunes unless I had listened to it on my iPod. Back then, working and playing in Manhattan, I spent a lot of time on the subway so I had a couple hours a day for prime listening. Anyway ... once I had listened to a song, I'd give it a rating.

Since I couldn't put all my music on my iPod, I created a smart playlist that would randomly grab 300 songs that did not have a rating and checked the "Live Update" button so when I gave a song a rating, it left the list for good.

How did I know what I listened to? Well, they do have the "Recently Played" default smart playlist, but I created my own that would include everything played in the last 3 days, so the list cleared out faster (Recently Played defaults to 2 weeks ... and I wanted to keep that as it is).

So, it was just a matter of synch the iPod, look at my "Really Recent iPodables" list and rate the unrated songs. As they received a rating, they got yanked from the "Most Unlistened To" list I created and never appeared there again.

And no, I'm still not done, what is it? 6 years now? or 5?
