Splitting is a primitive defense mechanism characterized by a "polarization of good feelings and bad feelings, of love and hate, of attachment and rejection."

Here is an article which discusses splitting:

http://www.psychiatrictimes.com/p981153.html

After reading it, I think I do this splitting thing with Dr. Bob by loving him at times and other times getting really upset and feeling intense rejection. Dr. Bob sure has to handle a lot from me and others. I think Dr. Bob deals with it all very well. He has to deal with the intense love and hate some of us feel for him. I wonder what would happen if Dr. Bob wasn't the administrator. Scary thought.
