Get to know your family's garages. They are a great source for apartment living stuff.
Look at the curbside for things like chairs, desks, tables. Remember a glue gun and a coat of paint can do wonders.
Bricks and 2 x 4's. The classic bookcase.If desperate, the Sally Ann is a good source for whatever you need.
