Dinah I know Chapel Hill and the Raleigh Durham Area. Yes they are expensive and lots of things to do and places to go. You would be around four hours from the Beach. Most of the people in the condos we had were from there and weekended there. Lots of shopping. Chapel Hill is very expensive very yuppy. UNC is there top rated University in North Carolina along with Duke which is in Durham. But from what I have been told Raleigh or Chapel Hill are the better of those choices. Spriggy can tell you about Tennesee as that's where she is from. Charlotte where I live is about two and a half hours from Raleigh. Hope this has been of some help to you. My husband said to go to HTV message boards a lot of people asking the same questions about the Raleigh area moving there and answers too.
