Different -- and Special *trigger* negative post

Posted by Racer on March 19, 2006, at 15:40:08

This has come up a couple of times for me lately, and it's somehow triggered a lot of -- wow, this might actually be anger, I think -- strong feelings for me. I'd be interested in hearing other people's reactions.

"Different -- and Special." It's that thing that some people do, "I'm Different, which means I'm Special -- so you have to treat me Special." Where it's come up near me lately, I've really wanted to say -- scream, really -- "Here's a News Flash for you, we're *ALL* Special, and we *don't* actually have to treat you Special."

It's the people who seem to be saying, in their reactions to things, that they are on a much higher plane of emotional sensitivity than the rest of the world. And ironically, it's the same people who seem to show the *least* emotional sensitivity to those around them. Besides, that is, showing how incredibly sensitive they are.

And, if you call them on it, they'll tell you off for being so emotionally INsensitive.

ARGH!

I don't know why it's gotten under my skin right now. I just know that right now, I want to say, "Hey, guess what? I feel too. And chances are I feel as strongly and as deeply as many other people in this world. And I don't have to prove it to you."

So, here's my message for all the Different -- and Special people out there: You did not invent suffering, and you are not unique in your emotional sensitivity. Other people around you are also capable of feelings. Even deep feelings. We get it. You're "sensitive." You can give it a rest now, 'K?

I'm sorry -- this hasn't anything to do with anyone online. This has to do with an IRL situation. I'm just upset by it right now. I hope I haven't upset anyone else by this, I know it's likely to be a trigger for others as well, and maybe I should have held it in, but I've been holding this in so hard that it's hurting. Maybe letting it out a bit will help.

Peace.
