Back when I was working, I often felt overwhelmed by stress on the job. I figured I needed a less demanding position, so, over the years, I downsized myself into smaller and smaller jobs. From a manager to one who is managed :-)
And I still would eventually get that same swamped feeling, that I was drowning in the tasks and going round in circles and getting frustrated and not able to finish one thing and go on to the next. I think the problem was not ever the job, but the person who was showing up every day to do it.
And so I am not working right now. I'm working on a far larger project, that of ME, and it is the biggest thing I have ever undertaken to do. There seems to be a really long path to success, sometimes. I am lucky, lucky, lucky, to be able to do this. I want for nothing, all my needs are more than met, allowing me to concentrate on that Big Project.

It's still overwhelming a lot of the time.
Thinking of you, and hoping that you can ease up on yourself. Be patient. Let yourself do what you can do today. I now mark my accomplishments by writing them on a postit note and sticking on the fridge - my TaDah!! list instead of a ToDo list. That helps a lot.
