What's your earliest memory?

Posted by TexasChic on January 31, 2006, at 21:22:36

Monchichi got me thinking about this. My earliest memory was when I was two and almost cut my toe off. My Uncle was in the landscaping business, and he put these metal things around his flower beds and trees. I have a vivid memory of looking up at him from far below, and him shaking his finger at me while saying, 'Don't you play around those, you hear?' I clearly remember thinking in a sassy tone, 'I'm going to anyway.' The next thing I remember is being in the hospital and how all the nurses seemed to be rushing around everywhere. I now know I cut my foot on the metal thing and my toe was pretty much hanging off. My Mom said my Uncle went home and immediately ripped all those metal things up and never used them again.

I remember alot more when I was three, that's when my brother was born, but that one memory at two is the earliest.

My brother said he used to think he remembered the setting of a picture of him and our cousin at about one. But he said everyone told him it was impossible, so he started doubting it, and now he can't remember it anymore.

Oh, theme songs I remember:

- Kids are people too

- Zoom

- 'Picture Pages' on Captain Kangaroo

- The Slinky gingle

- The Coke commercial, 'I'd like to teach the world to sing'

- I also remember the commercial with the Indian crying one tear because we've littered up his former lands so badly. That one made me cry, I didn't like seeing a grown man cry.

- Oh, and Romper Room, where the lady looked in a mirror and named all the kids she could see watching. I remember eagerly waiting for my name and thinking she was magic. Of course, she was really just reading off random names.

- I also remember having the chicken pox and watching Batman with Adam West while trying not to scratch.

- A personal memory, my brother had a really bad inner ear infection when he was two. I remember my Dad holding him while he went into convulsions and his eyes rolling back so you could just see the whites.
