Alphabetizing

Posted by James K on January 30, 2006, at 16:15:09

How do ya'll alphabetize and organize your books and records?

I'm strict alpha. I ignore genre and go by author's last name. Reference books - music guides, music essays, pro wrestling, movies, fish, get their own section at the end. Series with more than one author get a space at the end before after anthologies but before reference. Doctor Who has his own shelf. I start at the front door, work around the living room and dining room and finish in my bedroom.

Records have their own wall. Again alpha regardless of style. split releases next, then comps., I waver on should tribute albums go before comps., or last. Actually soundtracks are last. CDs, 7 inchers, and 10 inchers have same system. I have boxes for cds that come without jewel boxes.

Magazines are in boxes, but I'm working on exactly what system I want to keep them in. When I write the encyclopedia of everything that is cool in the world according to me, I have to be able to find everything.

I keep working on a card file catalog system, but get bogged down.

I've tried organizing things by label or publisher to see if it created an interesting visual effect, but I then have to spend days putting it back together.

Any body else this anal, or collect so much stuff?

I keep it so clean and organized, or else I would be a pack rat. I also have high standards on what deserves to stay. I'm running out of room in my half of the house.

Thank you for attention regarding this matter,
James K. II
