i hear ya man...looking back can be depressing. You either think life was great back then (and sucks now) or life sucked then, too (and still sucks now). Really, there's no way to win. My advice would be to try to look at your difficulties as a challenge, as something to learn from (rather than just a "problem") and then focus on the future you'd like to create for yourself.
