Hi Phillipa,

Basically, I know women (in my experience :) have their time of the month, monthly cycle etc ~ and with that their moods change, sometimes get irritable or depressed and more sensitive etc..

Men (or none that i've met lol) don't have periods.. excuse to the blatantness :-)

With bipolar and moods though, in the past 6 years since I've had mood swings with the highs and lows I've had a cycle which is like clock work, always has been the same which had my moods up for a period of about 4 months - normal for about 2/3 months then down for about 6/8 months. This has been a cycle I could set my watch to the last 6 years.. Things are different now though what with being on medication..

But ~ I've noticed the past few months everytime (Once a month when theres a full moon) for about 3 days my mood changes. It can be very slight, sometimes its been nothing more or less, but there has been a noticeable change usually resulting in me feeling alittle more 'up' than usual...nothing too bad though, quite a good feeling in general.

Just found it interesting that the moon can have this effect ~ I've read that animals tend to sometimes behave differently then too and sometimes teachers notice a difference in children in the classroom.

I guess its normal, nature with its cycles. Theres afew theories why it happens...its known that the moons gravity effects the tides of the oceon I think, perhaps it can have some kind of a force on the chemistry of the brain/body too. I read one theory that also it dates back to cavemen when on a fullmoon maybe it would be a suvival instinct..as the night would be lite up with the shining moon they would be able to hunt for food or something.

Wasn't sure if using the word lunat*c would be civil, but I guess its safe to use if i'm calling myself one ;-)

Kind regards

Nick
