I had my nephew this weekend and it was just too good of an excuse to go. I really liked it. Of course, I was happy that the movie was as dark as the book. I think they finally did it justice in that respect. My nephew is only 7, but his parents exposed him to scary movies early on, so now he's pretty indifferent about it. Not that I approve, I never even let him watch Buffy when he was with me. But I didn't really expect it would be quite so scary. He said he was only scared of the mermaids though, and I had warned him about them beforehand because I saw a picture of them in the paper. But the ending was pretty scary (and sad) to me, at least, while knowing he was watching it.
I couldn't believe how well he understood the plot. And he knew so much beforehand just from the advertisements. He kept telling me everything that was going to happen next. I was like, how on earth do you know that? He was like, I dunno.
