Sorry to come back to this bra thing... and I don't mean to get too personal, so please feel free to ignore me if this is an imposition, but when was the last time you were properly measured? You mentioned that you have a small body, so I find it hard to believe you're really a 44DD. I'd guess you're more like a 36G.The only reason I mention this is that I was wearing a 44DD until my friend, who is a doctor, took me shopping. Her mission was to get me properly fitted and make me start buying expensive bras. She didn't believe I was a 44DD, and she was right! Living in G-cup world is a bit more expensive, but better for my back than wearing the wrong size bra... And I weigh over 200 pounds. If you weigh less than that, I'd guess you're buying a bra too big across the back and not big enough in the cup.
