As Burt (1962) writes, "psychology, having first bargained away its soul and then gone out of its mind, seems now...to have lost all consciousness" (p.229).

Now I think it goes...
Psychology - study of the psyche / soul...
But then it became the 'science' of the mind / consciousness (hence bargained away its soul) round the time of structuralism...Then it 'went out of its mind' when it became the science ('just like physics' heh heh) of behaviour - behaviourism...
Then it lost consciousness with modern cognitive psychology because it talks of mental processes in terms of 'information processing' and doesn't mention consciousness much at all...
But that was a hard one so I'll give it to you.
Your up :-)
