Actually, at the moment he keeps putting it off.
We explain the economics of each birthday/Christmas to him. There is $xxx to spend. If you get a GameCube (he really wants an XBox) and a few games that will cost about $xxx, which will leave you $xxx for other toys.
So far he's decided to make do with computer games and his Gameboy Advanced (given to him by his grandparents) so that he can get other toys. But it's fun to see him sit down and struggle with the numbers, and decide which he wants more.
