Which therapy?

Posted by capricorn on May 23, 2005, at 8:03:36

I suffer from mood reactivity, paranoia, over the top reactions and rejection sensitivity, anxiety, irritabilty, anger, depression.
I tend to find it hard to be satisifed by things ie they are akin to reading a book or a film where the denouement leaves you feeling flat and unsatisfied and there is always a certain something missing. When i am very stressed i can experience what i would call intrusive thoughts/the room seeming strange somehow as if i am seeing it through the distorted lens of an avante garde cinematographrer. It also feels sometimes as if i have been in a dream whilst still awake i get this feeling of unnatural calmness afterwards as if a mental fever has broken.
My psychiatrist said that it is most probably my dramatic outbursts that give the impression i am 'crazy' but he believes i am not and mentioned that he thought i was very intelligent.
I mentioned to him that although i had always been older than my years intellectually that emotionally the opposite was true .He nodded in agreement and said this was the most relevant thing i had said during the session. He said that he had worked with many patients like myself and they were invariably emotionally aged between 5-15.
He is going to refer me for some kind of therapy.

Am i abormal for being like this or is it something that happens to others here too?

Could someone please give me some indication of what kind of therapy it might be and what it entails?
