Nope, it just suddenly "blew".. couldn't even turn it on..

If your PC is making funny sounds, your fans are probably getting dirty. You'll need a can of "compressed air".. they come with a long nozzle.. then take the top / side of the main PC unit (unless its a laptop), and give all the fans a good squirt to get rid of the crud on it, and have a good spray around all the components too. The larger fans you can gently use a small brush on.. but the smaller ones I wouldn't do that.. just squirt well!!
If its a laptop, find the fans on the side / bottom and give them a damned good squirt too! I do this every couple of weeks to prevent a bad built up of dirt.. You'll be amazed how much dust and fluff is in there!!!

When going out to buy a router, take along the name of your ISP.. If you're on a cable internet connection, you'll need a different type (a non-modem router which are cheaper).. otherwise you need one with integral modem. I'd NEVER reccomend anyone connect to internet (if they're using broadband) without a router.
I love having a router.. means when I borrow a laptop from work, I can just plug a network cable into the laptop to the router and ta da! Connected to internet!!!

Good luck!
