I've only read one of his books, and I suspect it might be kind of different from his other stuff. It's "The Return of Merlin" and uses the Camelot story juxataposed against modern day to demonstrate honor, conflict both inner and outer, evil, and relationships. He explains a lot of the metaphors in the introduction, which is good, because otherwise they would have really gone over my head. I loved this book.
