I've remembered all my mother's stories wrong

Posted by Dinah on July 1, 2004, at 18:52:49

I was telling my therapist the stories my mother used to tell me about her childhood, and decided to check the accuracy of what I told him because it really had been a while.

Well, it just goes to show it's probably worthless to tell your stories to your children because I had remembered everything completely wrong!!!

So, I'm going to get my tape recorder and drive to their house a few hours a week and get her to tell me all the stories. The story of my grandma and grandpa's courtship (I remembered that one right, it was the most romantic story I ever heard), the stories of growing up with her brothers and sisters, her pet stories, her multiple illnesses as a child. The unlikely courtship with my father. I just don't trust my memory on any of them, so I'll trust the recorder instead. :)

I can't wait.

I wish my Dad would do it, but he's not very forthcoming about that sort of thing. While my mother. Well, I could just leave the recorder running and come change the tapes now and again and she could go for days. :) Which is a good thing, of course.
