Elle,
I am a figure skater, and we wear Danskins (there are other brands, too). But when it is really cold we often wear a heavier, warmer pair of "footless" tights over the Danskins. They are flesh colored, too, and really help on the colder days.

Also, I really think I have seen the cable design heavy tights that I wore in grade school for adults - maybe LLBean or LandsEnd or some "earthy" distributor?
